Pose and movement

Supported hygiene, hydration, exercise, breathing, and room-based missions use live pose or motion patterns processed in memory.

Steps and phone motion

Walking uses the hardware step counter with an accelerometer fallback. The shake mission reads the raw accelerometer without opening the camera.

Brightness and colour

Find Bright Light and Spot the Sky measure scene brightness and blown-out highlights. Spot a Plant looks for a dominant green channel. Both run on the frame, on the device.

Text recognition

Write Your Top Priority checks for visible writing locally; Wakr does not upload the words for mission verification.

No verification upload

Camera frames, pose coordinates, recognized words, and motion checks used by supported missions are not recorded or sent to Wakr.

Core checks work locally

A network connection may still be needed for purchases, plan management, support, or store services.

PERMISSION BY CHOICE

Wakr asks when a selected feature needs access.

A camera-verified mission needs camera access. The walking mission may need motion or physical-activity access; the shake mission needs none, because the raw accelerometer is ungated. Alarm and notification permissions support delivery. You can deny or revoke a permission in system settings, but the mission that depends on it may stop working.

WHAT ON-DEVICE ACTUALLY MEANS

The distinction that matters is where the frame goes.

Plenty of apps describe themselves as private. The question worth asking is narrower than that: when the camera opens, does the image leave the phone?

For Wakr’s mission checks it does not. A frame is captured, examined in memory for the specific signal the mission needs, and discarded. There is no upload, no copy written to storage for later analysis, and no server that receives it. Nothing about the check depends on a connection, which is why the camera-based missions keep working in airplane mode.

That is a deliberately limited claim, and it is worth being precise about its edges. It covers verification. It does not mean the app never talks to a network at all — purchases, plan management, and support all involve the App Store or email, and those are ordinary network activities that have nothing to do with what your camera saw.

HOW EACH CHECK WORKS

Five signals, matched to what the mission actually asks.

Different actions leave different evidence. Using the narrowest signal that can confirm an action means most missions never need the camera at all.

Step counting

Walk 100 Steps reads the phone’s hardware step counter, falling back to the raw accelerometer where that counter is unavailable. The count starts at zero when the mission begins, so earlier steps cannot be reused. No camera, and it works in complete darkness.

Raw motion

The shake mission reads the accelerometer directly. That sensor is not permission-gated on either platform, which makes this the only mission that requires no permission grant of any kind.

Pose analysis

Brushing, washing, jumping jacks, making the bed, breathing, and leaving the room look for body position and movement patterns over time. Because they need sustained evidence or complete movement cycles, a single held-up frame cannot satisfy them.

Brightness and colour

Find Bright Light and Spot the Sky measure overall scene brightness and blown-out highlights rather than identifying objects. Spot a Plant looks for a dominant green channel. These are deliberately coarse measurements, which is part of why they are cheap to run locally.

Text recognition

Write Your Top Priority confirms that legible writing exists in frame. It is checking for the presence of text, not reading your priority for any other purpose, and the words are not transmitted.

Why not just one method

A single generic check would either be too easy to fool or too strict to pass. Matching the signal to the action keeps most missions off the camera entirely and lets each one fail in a way that makes sense to the person standing there.

Verification is an automated estimate.

Lighting, framing, movement, permissions, sensor support, and operating-system behavior can affect a check. Temporal rules require sustained evidence or complete movement cycles, so a single frame can never finish a mission. Follow the on-screen guidance and keep a backup alarm for important commitments.
